If you have acne and are a memeber of some acne related commuinties you will already know that two treatments that are always hyped up as being very effective are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid.

But if these two had a boxing match, salicylic acid vs benzoyl peroxide which one would win! But obviously they cant have a boxing match to see which one is the most effective but comparing the advantages and disadvantages of each one can give a good indication of which one is better for treating acne.

Another important thing to remember is there are many different causes for acne and everyone will have slightly different ways to get rid of there acne that works for them and may not work for you, and that is the key to clearing acne, finding what works for you and sticking to it for the best results.

Salicylic Acid

  1. Removes excess skin and dead skin cells.
  2. Clears pores
  3. Removes impurities.
  4. Kills acne bacteria.

Disadvantages

  1. Can irritate the skin
  2. Can cause redness
  3. Some people may ave a reaction to the product.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Advantages

  1. Kills p.acne bacteria
  2. Absorbs exxces oil
  3. Prevents future breakouts

Disadvantages

  1. Can dry the skin
  2. Cause redness
  3. Irratate the skin
  4. Possible chance of reaction to certain indueviduals

Conclusion

Looking at and comparing the two they are very similar in both advantages and disadvantages, but I would say that salicylic acid has less risks but is slightly less effective and benzoyl peroxide has more risk but a little more effective. But with acne what works great for some will not work for others, but these two are definitely acne treatments that work for most acne suffers, its just a matter of choosing which one works the best for your skin and acne.
